MEO Class IV FAQ

Q) What is meant by "Load Up Program" and "Load Down Program" for main engine operation from bridge.
A) Its a program in ME, when engine have "Load Up Program" in starting when full ahead signal is given its  RPM start increase  like 1 RPM per minute and it takes around 30 minutes to take engine on its full RPM.
While "Load Down Program" is that when engine is slow down from full ahead to slow or any speed below full ahead, its start decreasing, for example 2 RPM per minute.
Load Down is fast compare to Load Up in emergency we can bypass this system.
These are given for the good performance of engine and appropriate load at all time.

Q) What is Crash Maneuvering?
A) It is sudden stopping of Engine in order to avoid collision or else grounding.

Q) Why on deck Low Expansion foam are used?
A) Low Expansion foam are used on deck because if we'll use High Expansion foam, it will expand rapidly and will be blown off with air.

Q) Why NOx and SOx are not applicable to boiler?
A) NOx and SOx are not applicable on boiler because in boiler there's no compression ignition, so the combustion temperature is limited, so there's no chance of NOx formation, where as there's no impact of SOx because it depend upon the fuel type.

Q) When Cylinder Lubricating Oil is injected via quills?
A) Lube Oil is injected when the ring pack portion passes the quills, it's injected on upward stroke when first ring passes the quills, that is, it will only inject when piston is going TDC because during upward stroke it will take oil up-to end of the stroke and it will lubricate top liner part and when piston is coming downward, again oil will lubricate the down part of the liner.
